How is Latrobe Health connected to this cause? 

Latrobe Health Services is proudly partnering with Shane Warne Legacy, Wesfarmers and SiSU Health to deliver free heart tests to Australians.

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, cardiovascular disease kills approximately 43,000 Australians each year* – affecting more than 4 million Australians^ and was responsible for 25% of all deaths in Australia in 2021*.

The Shane Warne Legacy Heart Test campaign aimed to make 23,000 free four-minute heart tests available to Australians before the end of 2023. This was achieved during the 2023 MCG Boxing Day Cricket Test, running consecutively over 4 days, 26-29 December. 

There were 23 SiSU Health Stations set up around the MCG for people to access their FREE four-minute heart health test. 7,732 tests were carried out during this event, while the remainder of tests were completed in Priceline pharmacies that have health stations set up. 

A total of 31,742 tests were carried out across the MCG and Priceline pharmacies by the end of 2023 through the Shane Warne Legacy. 

High blood pressure is the leading preventable risk factor for cardiovascular disease and death and the Shane Warne Legacy Heart tests has shown that one in five participants measured high blood pressure. 

Less than half the patients who received a heart test said they had not had their blood pressure checked in over 12 months. Blood pressure should be checked at the very minimum once a year, the importnace of "knowing your numbers" from the mid 30's onwards cannot be understated. 

In 2024 the partners will work together aiming to provide 500,000 free heart health tests to Australians in an attempt to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and save lives.

How the heart health tests work?

Using the SiSU health station machines, participants are stepped through a four-minute heart health check, with results provided immediately via the SiSU app.
