We’re all in on heart health

Latrobe Health Services is the proud Founding Partner of the Shane Warne Legacy, helping more people across Australia access free, simple and potentially life-changing health checks.

Why this partnership matters

As a not-for-profit private health insurer, we’re focused on practical ways to support better health outcomes for our members and their communities. With partners, the Shane Warne Legacy and Diabetes Australia, Latrobe Health is building on our long-standing commitment to driving inclusive and accessible preventative health initiatives, especially for regional and rural communities.

Free health checks that help people act

Getting a free Shane Warne Legacy Health Check does more than provide a snapshot of your health, it can give the confidence to act.

Recent IPSOS research commissioned by Latrobe Health surveyed more than 1,200 Australians aged 18–65, comparing those who had received a free Shane Warne Legacy Health Check with those who hadn’t. The study explored health literacy, motivations, and behaviours, helping us understand the impact Shane Warne Legacy Health Checks can have on health decisions and health outcomes.

The results show people who completed a health check were more likely to take positive action for their health and feel more confident about making healthy lifestyle choices.

Results of the research show:

  • 85% of participants took positive action as a result of their health check (increasing to 91% for those with a health risk factor)
  • 52% believe the health check improved their health (rising to 60% for regional participants)
  • 39% felt the health check was the single most important thing they had done for their health in 12 months (jumping to 43% for regional Australians and 45% for those with a risk factor)
  • 94% of participants would recommend the health check to others
  • After a health check, regional participants are more likely to make healthier choices than metro participants

Where it all began

Our work in heart health started with a 500-person trial in June 2022 as part of the Gippsland Healthy Hearts Study, delivered in partnership with SiSU Health, Wesfarmers Health and Novartis.

The study found that 85.8% of participants had one or more cardiovascular disease risk factors. One participant, a 38-year-old man in regional Victoria, was taken to hospital for lifesaving surgery after pharmacists at the health check called an ambulance.

We kept going, delivering an additional 2,500 health checks in regional and rural communities through local field days and shopping centres from 2023 onward.

Growing the impact with the Shane Warne Legacy

In November 2023, we joined forces with the Shane Warne Legacy to take free health checks even further. Since then, we have delivered over 490,000 free Shane Warne Legacy Health Checks at major events including the Boxing Day Test and AFL Gather Round, community events and local pharmacies.

Where can you get your free health check?
