Avoiding the 1% Medicare Levy

Couples and families with a taxable income of $100,000p.a. or more, and Singles with a taxable income of $50,000p.a. or more, who do not have Private Health Insurance will pay an additional 1% Medicare levy. To avoid paying the extra Medicare surcharge, you will need to have at least a private hospital cover table. People with Extras cover only will still be subject to the Medicare surcharge.

Higher income earners who have Private Hospital Health Cover will avoid the additional Medicare levy amount. By insuring with Latrobe you not only save on tax, you also have Health Cover for when you may need it.
