30% RebateThe Federal Government Rebate on Private Health Insurance

The Federal Government Rebate was introduced in January 1999 as an incentive to encourage more people to take out private health cover. The introduction of this incentive means you can continue to enjoy the security and benefits of more affordable private health cover.

Who can claim the Rebate?

  • Anyone who is eligible for a Medicare card, or who is listed on another person's Medicare card can claim the Rebate.
  • The Rebate is not means tested.
It applies to private hospital cover and also to extras (ancillary) cover.

How much is the Rebate worth to me?

  • Effective 3 April 2006 the following entitlements apply, according to your age:
  • If you are aged under 65 years, you are eligible to receive the 30% Government Rebate.
  • If you or another person covered by your membership are aged between 65 to 69 years, then you are eligible to receive the 35% Government Rebate.
  • If you or another person covered by your membership are aged 70 years and over, then you are eligible to receive the 40% Government Rebate.

  • As a refund from Medicare
If you've paid the full membership contribution, and don't want to claim as a tax deduction, call us on 1300 362 155 for advice on how to claim.
